You can pay monthly to get music, movies, and TV on demand. Whatever you want, whenever you want it. So why can’t you do the same for cars?
That might change if a new program from Porsche passes its trial run. The program, called Porsche Passport, gives shoppers a sports car and SUV subscription program with flexible access to Porsche’s lineup.
It’s a month-to-month subscription plan that offers members frequent car changes, unlimited mileage, and on-demand access to 22 different Porsches.
Porsche is planning the program in a collaboration with Clutch Technologies. Clutch is a new company that develops software to help the automotive industry offer subscription services to buyers.
There will be two plans when the Porsche Passport starts, and both include delivery of the vehicles. Launch gives access to eight models, like the 718 Boxster and Cayman S, Macan S, and Cayenne SUV. That package will start at US $2,000 a month.
Accelerate adds more cars. Up to 22 models, including the 911 Carrera S, Panamera 4S, Macan GTS, and Cayenne S E-hybrid. The deluxe package will run $3,000 a month.
The plans include tax, registration, insurance and maintenance. More importantly, they include car washes. There is an activation fee and a background check is required.
The trial will start this November, but for now, Porsche-flix (Porsche-ify?) is only available in Atlanta. That city was chosen for the trial because it is home to the US head offices of both companies.
