Road Test: 2025 Genesis G70

The Genesis G70 has been around since 2017 and, while that may make it one of the older models in the sport sedan market, it still holds its own when it comes to design, performance, and luxury.

Refreshed in 2022, the 2025 Genesis G70 3.3T Sport AWD we tested is pretty much unchanged.

Our ride was the top of four trims for the 2025 model year and was equipped to the roof with features such as quilted Nappa leather seating surfaces with sport quilting, a power trunk lid, heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, and more.

All in, the G70 3.3T Sport AWD will cost you $66,122.50 and definitely lives up to its original intention—to give the German luxury brands a run for their money.

Powertrain: Ensuring it delivers plenty of driving enjoyment is the 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 under the hood, producing 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. While this is essentially the same engine the model debuted with in 2017, the old saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies here.

It is mated to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel–mounted paddle shifters. While they do the job, I let the transmission do the heavy lifting—and it does it well.

One thing that missed the mark for me was the fuel economy, with an observed average of 14.4 litres per 100 kilometres, higher than the advertised 12.7 L/100 km.

Exterior: While the G70’s design may be a little long in the tooth, that doesn’t mean it isn’t attractive. In fact, parked in front of a house during a long conversation, my interlocutor couldn’t help but revel in the elegant styling of the sport sedan.

Perhaps it was the exterior colour that gave it a more appealing allure, but it is undeniably a good-looking vehicle. The same can be said about almost every Genesis, which—as a brand—has done a commendable job when it comes to styling.

The 3.3T Sport AWD tester had a really nice set of 19-inch alloy wheels to cap off the exterior look, adding to its dynamism and overall appeal.

The front end features a wide, almost V-shaped grille and sharp bi-level headlight assemblies.

Nicely sculpted body panels and an equally elegant back end—including a dual exhaust—mean there’s nary a bad angle from which to view the G70.

Interior: Having recently tested the larger G80, the G70 shares at least one similarity with its larger stablemate: red leather seating.

The seats are quite comfortable and, in the tester, come heated and ventilated.

Rear occupants will suffer from limited legroom, and headroom could be a challenge for taller passengers.

On the dashboard, controls for the HVAC system are all soft-touch, with audio controls in a neat row just above that. Very well laid out and simply designed, which I appreciated.

The G70 3.3T Sport AWD we drove also featured a head-up display and a 12.3-inch LCD cluster screen.

Infotainment: The G70 has a 10.25-inch touchscreen atop the dash—a crisp display paired with a 15-speaker Lexicon surround-sound audio system.

Featuring built-in navigation, satellite radio, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it has all the necessary features. However, the lack of a wireless connection for those phone interfaces is a miss in my view.

Drive: On the road, the G70 3.3T is a smooth operator. Steering felt great, and the tester featured a sport-tuned electronically controlled suspension to help enhance overall feel.

To match the engine’s power is a Brembo braking system (with red-painted calipers).

Drivers can select between four drive modes: Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Custom. Even in Comfort—where I spent most of the week—the G70 is a smooth, powerful vehicle. Sport mode kicks things up a notch, but I still found the default drive settings good enough for most cases.

Conclusion: Meant to take on the more established sport sedans from the German brands, Genesis has done just that since it entered the market in 2017. Even with few changes for 2025, the G70 remains a viable competitor—stylish and powerful, delivering genuine driving enjoyment and a luxurious interior.
