The Canyon runs deeper

When you’re striking gold, you might as well go deeper and that’s what GM is doing for 2017 with the GMC Canyon.

The Canyon lineup is getting deeper as it rides a 12% sales boost for the year to date, so mining two new audiences can’t hurt. Can it?

Two new models are on the way — a new top-of-the-line Denali and a new “off-road inspired” All Terrain X.

As in other GMC vehicles, Denali means bling and the Canyon chrome exterior details including tubular chrome side steps, spray-on bedliner and unique wheels, along with exclusive interior trim and content.

Its jet black interior has heated and ventilated leather seating and a unique instrument panel and console trim including branded sill plates.

The kid on the block is powered by a new 3.6L V6 linked to the segment’s first eight-speed automatic transmission which is available across the lineup, including the All-Terrain X Package which adds Goodyear DuraTrac all-terrain tires, all-weather floor liners “and more” (whatever that means) to the All Terrain package.

The company says the new powertrain supports a 3,175 kg (7,000-lb) maximum trailer rating
