The Chevrolet Silverado has long been a popular model for the automaker. This full-size pickup truck is offered in a wide variety of trims, giving it the versatility to appeal to a broader consumer base.
Whether you’re in the market for a work truck or something more luxurious to haul a fifth-wheel or otherwise, the Silverado has something for everyone.

We recently tested the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss 4×4 with the diesel engine. This version of the truck offers enhanced off-road prowess and some specific exterior features that help it stand out.
The Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss 4×4 has a base price of $70,099, but a myriad of optional equipment pushes the final price of our tester to $86,703.
Powertrain: The Silverado offers four different engine choices, including three gasoline options—the largest being a 6.2-litre V8.

Our tester featured the diesel option, a 3.0-litre Duramax turbocharged six-cylinder powerplant that delivers plenty of power and was surprisingly efficient.
While the 305 horsepower it produces is impressive, it’s the 495 pound-feet of torque delivered through a 10-speed automatic transmission that really stands out.
The 4×4 Trail Boss has an impressive towing capacity of up to 13,300 pounds.
I found the engine’s power delivery to be smooth, with no noticeable turbo lag. It also impressed by exceeding its estimated fuel economy figure of 10.8 litres per 100 kilometres during my week with it—I achieved an average of 9.8 L/100 km.

Exterior: Our tester was finished in one of two new exterior colours for 2025: Cypress Grey. I am, however, curious to see what Riptide Blue Metallic looks like in person—it just sounds like a cool colour.
The glossy black front bumper is accentuated by bright red tow hooks, while the massive and tall front grille is as in-your-face as it gets—anchored by the large bowtie logo front and centre.
At the back, the multi-purpose tailgate converts into a step to allow easy access to the truck bed. Steps are also integrated into the rear bumper.
Our tester had optional 4-inch round steps installed—a $1,135 dealer add-on—and the Trail Boss decal proudly displayed to differentiate this trim.

Other exterior options included a power sunroof—which kept automatically venting at odd times, including during a rainstorm. Clearly, there’s some kind of venting system I couldn’t figure out.
The final exterior addition was a set of black exhaust tips.
As far as pickup trucks go, the Silverado Trail Boss looks pretty darn good—but rides quite high and didn’t fit into certain areas of my underground parking structure.
Interior: Other than pickups destined purely for job sites, most trucks today are well appointed with upgraded materials—and the Silverado Trail Boss is no exception, especially with the optional leather seating in our tester.

It can seat up to five, with a reasonably comfortable rear bench that flips up to allow for extra storage when needed.
Up front, occupants are well looked after with comfortable seating, and the dashboard layout is functional and intuitive.
Infotainment: The Silverado Trail Boss features a 13.4-inch infotainment screen, and our tester was equipped with the upgraded Bose Premium Sound system with seven speakers, as part of the optional Convenience Package II.
That package also enhances the Trail Boss’s trailering capabilities with Hitch Guidance and Hitch View, a Trailer Brake Controller, and the Trailering App.

The infotainment system itself includes all the expected modern features, such as satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It’s an excellent system overall, complete with Amazon Alexa integration and a Google-powered voice assistant.
Drive: As the name suggests, the Trail Boss edition includes features to help this pickup tackle the less-beaten path. These include a two-inch suspension lift and the Z71 off-road package. When paired with the 4×4 system, it gives you the confidence and tools needed for off-road adventures.
The large 18-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires and protective skid plates add to the pickup’s capability.

The diesel engine was also quieter than anticipated, defying the stereotype of being overly loud.
The suspension did a good job of keeping things relatively calm in the cabin, and the steering feel was surprisingly light for such a large vehicle.
Overall, it offered a very pleasant driving experience for a truck of its size and stature.
Conclusion: The 2025 Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss 4×4 strikes a solid balance between form and function.
It looks great inside and out, and I especially appreciated the new paint colour. Its blend of off-road capability, towing strength, and practical truck-bed versatility makes it a very well-rounded option in the segment.
