Lamborghini unveils Centenario Roadster at The Quail

Lamborghini could take the next five years off from delivering stellar supercars and they would probably still be recognized as one of the most desirable automotive brands on the planet. But the Italian built, German-owned automaker is never satisfied to rest on their laurels. And if there is a chance to design and sell more convertibles to go along with all the coupes in their stable, why should they stop. Even if it means building just 20 cars; the fact they will sellout instantly at a price of approximately $2 million Euros per, the economics and optics make total sense.

So it comes as no surprise the Lamborghini Centenario Roadster was unveiled recently at Monterey Car Week in California. Form follows function in the design lexicon of Lamborghini these days, but in my opinion you can also see a lot of Countach in the design theme, especially in the 3rd image featured in our picture carousel. Power and clean surfaces, with sensuous curves forms a carbon fiber mono-body shape according to the company. Colour choices are unlimited as buyers can specify any exterior and interior combination with Lamborghini’s Ad Personam personalization program.

Power comes in the form of a V12 engine that delivers 770 horsepower, revving to a high of 8,600 rpm. This raises the performance bar to a top speed of 350 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Equally impressive, 100-0 takes a mere 31 metres. Mounted on 20”/21” forged and milled alloys, Pirellis PZero high-performance tires are specifically designed to work with rear-wheel steering Centenario.

“Lamborghini prides itself on the relentless pursuit of experimentation. We are proud to unleash Centenario’s further potential in the form of a classic roadster; the perfect harmony between innovation and timeless design. This unique engineering achievement is a befitting tribute to Lamborghini’s extraordinary past and a preview of its brilliant future. Centenario Roadster embraces the cutting edge characteristics of its coupé sibling and embraces the freedom of a true open-top super sports car for a pure drive experience” Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini Chief Executive Officer, said.
