Ford is getting into the “Radwood” ’80s vibes that it says are “at an all-time high” these days by offering the FX styling package for the 2026 Mustang GT Premium coupe and GT Premium convertible. As those born in the ‘80s and ‘90s approach the age where they can actually afford the cars plastered all over their childhood bedroom walls, the time was right for a retro package. It’s not the first time Ford has taken inspiration from the gen 3 for their new car; the digital gauge cluster in the current Mustang has a “Fox Body” style option. That’s right: what was originally a simple digital gauge cluster choice…has become a styling package for the entire car!
Seen here is a 2026 Mustang GT finished in a very ‘80s Adriatic Blue metallic colourway, which is an all-new colour that is adjacent to the teal originally available for the third-generation “Fox Body” Mustang. It’s not the only choice for the FX package, but it’s probably the one that best fits the retro bill. Speaking of colour choices: 2026 will also see the return of Orange Fury metallic, a hue we haven’t seen since 2019.
While not all FX cars will have that exterior colour, each will have one of two wheel designs — both finished in Oxford White. That famous colourway also appears on the GT, 5.0, and Mustang Pony badges and on Performance Pack models, the “nostrils” within the black hex grille will also pop white. There are even white taillight inserts! Oh, and not to worry: the seats and other interior leather bits will be finished in black with subtle white inserts that mimic the plaid look of older models. That means all those crazy ‘80s kids buying FXes won’t have to worry about getting their retinas seared by a blinding Oxford White leather interior. Which, if I’m honest, I was surprised to discover considering the vibe of this thing and that you could absolutely get an all-white interior on third-gen ‘Stangs back in the day.
Those interested can start reserving their Mustang FXes starting June 17. Now, if they would just allow us to put a set of louvres on the rear window…
