Canadian Tire Offers EV Charging in Ontario

Electric vehicle drivers in Ontario will soon benefit from 25 new fast-charging stations after an announcement Monday morning.

AddÉnergie, based in Quebec City, will install the stations at 25 Canadian Tire Gas+ outlets throughout the province in partnership with Natural Resources Canada. NRCAN will be funding a portion of the $1.8-million cost for the stations.

The stations will be part of AddÉnergie’s FLO charging network, which has 2,500 charging stations from coast to coast.

The partners said that the stations would be placed along some of the province’s highways with the goal to help make travel between cities easier for EV drivers.

Every location will have a DC fast-charger and dual Level 2 charging stations.

DC chargers provide an 80 per cent charge in about 30 minutes, ideal for a pit stop during intercity travel.

The Level 2 chargers take 3-4 hours for a full charge.

The program is being funded by AddÉnergie, in combination with a repayable contribution of $837,500 through NRCAN’s Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative.
