2026 Subaru Uncharted EV Debuts

Today, Subaru pulled the sheet back on the latest product of the electric relationship between itself and Toyota: the 2026 Uncharted compact EV crossover, following the recent release of the Toyota CH-R we saw in April. This latest Subaru EV is a little shorter than the recently-redesigned Solterra EV, but still offers 700 litres of cargo space – you know, flat floor, low overhangs and all that – and has the turning radius of the smaller Crosstrek hatch.

Of all the fruits of the Toyota-Subaru relationship, the Uncharted is arguably the sportiest-looking of the group with narrow LED headlights, dark wheels (available in 18- or 20-inch sizes) and bright orange paint. The contrast-colour roof on the top-spec GT trim, weather-resistant headlight surrounds (shaped so the bulb inside can melt accumulating snow and slush), and badging all serve to add just a little bit of menace to the proceedings. The cladding ‘round the wheels and on the rocker panels, meanwhile, adds the butchiness that many Subaru buyers are looking for. The Uncharted features great applications of Subaru’s design language and if it drives anything like it looks, we should be in for a good time.

The Uncharted gets an available 77 kWh battery that Subaru claims will provide 338 horsepower and 460 km of range in dual-motor, all-wheel-drive form. If range is priority number one for buyers, then there’s also two single-motor, long range trims good for a claimed 480 km ad 221 hp. No pricing has been announced, but the single-motor models will be priced lower than similarly-equipped dual-motor versions.

In addition to offering more power, the dual-motor models – which Subaru has given its proprietary X-Mode off-road tech – have the chassis tuning to excel in all conditions, such as dirt roads or the greasy roads of Canadian winters. All Uncharted models get the benefit of additional structural rigidity provided by their EV batteries. Speaking of the batteries: they can be charged at up to 150 kW, meaning a 10-80 per cent charge time of about 30 minutes. Thanks to the battery’s pre-conditioning tech, those figures hold true in cold weather conditions, which Canadians will surely appreciate. Level I and II charging is also possible via the 11 kW on-board charger.

Inside, there’s a 14” infotainment display as standard, dual wireless chargers up front and dual USB-C charge ports in the back seat, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. That’s the tech; in the style department, look for unique touches such as orange interior accents, available SofTex synthetic leather upholstery and standard heated front seats on all models, with standard heated rear seats on dual-motor AWD models.

Pricing for the 2026 Subaru Uncharted will be available closer to launch in early ’26. Watch this space!
