2018 Nissan LEAF unveiled with significant changes

Details of the 2018 Nissan LEAF were made public on Monday and when it goes on sale in early 2018 on Canada, it will have a starting price of $35,998.

It also features an improved driving range of 241 kilometres on a full charge, a revised exterior and interior and new technologies such as ProPILOT Assist and e-Pedal.

The automaker said Monday that the new LEAF is the first step in the re-launch of Nissan’s EV platform and that a high-power version of the LEAF will arrive in 2019. That will feature increased motor power and battery capacity, and a premium price.

LEAFs sold in Canada come with a weather package that includes heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and a battery heater.

Nissan has sold 283,000 LEAFs around the world, including 5,400 in Canada.

ProPILOT Assist is a precursor to autonomous driving technologies in a sense. The system provides assistance to the driver when it comes to acceleration, steering and braking under certain conditions.

The e-Pedal allows drivers to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop by increasing or decreasing the pressure to the accelerator. When you take your foot off the accelerator, regenerative and friction brakes are automatically applied, stopping the vehicle.
